MARRIAGE LICENSE REQUIRED. A valid marriage license is required for weddings. Your marriage license is valid anywhere within the state it was issued. After the mandatory 3-day waiting period, it is valid for 60 days. It is the couple's responsibility to obtain a valid marriage license for their wedding ceremony. Wedding couples do not need to be residents of the State of Washington or U.S. citizens in order to obtain a marriage license. Please check directly with the county auditor for specific marriage license application instructions.

Option #2. Quick No Frills Elopement @Officiant's location: $300
Also known as the SIGN & GO Option. No fuss., no fanfare, and no groups. Just you and your two witnesses (18+) come as you are to my location in Olympia to sign your marriage paperwork. Easy. Simple. Fast. If you are deploying soon, in a rush, or want zero hoopla, this is the way to do it. We'll hold a quick ceremony, sign your marriage paperwork in my little studio, and then off you'll go. I dress very casually for sign & go impromptu elopements at my location. You are welcome to dress casually as well or wear a formal tux & gown, however you prefer. I am happy to take a photo of you afterwards, if you like.

NOTE: My little home art/writing studio is where we can sign your marriage paperwork out of the wind and rain. It is is small and not "childproof". Thus, I cannot accommodate groups, pets, or children. So if you have more than just your two legal witnesses in attendance, please choose option for ceremony at your chosen location so that I may travel to you or to a local location in Olympia, Lacey, or Tumwater to perform the ceremony and sign marriage paperwork. Thank you for understanding. If you have any questions, just ask.

Option #3. DIY Ceremony (Do It Yourself): $FREE!?
If the budget is too tight, ask a trusted friend or family member who is ordained or willing to become ordained to perform your private wedding ceremony for you at no charge. It might be another connection, another fond memory for you. The DIY ceremony option is something I want all couples to be aware of. Whether or not you choose me to be your officiant, of course I wish you great happiness :-)
NOTE: Not everyone is comfortable becoming ordained or speaking in public. Fear of public speaking is the #1 fear In America. The responsibility of completing and recording the marriage paperwork with the county after the wedding adds another element of uncertainty. So if you start the DIY route and later on discover your chosen person has cold feet or if your plans have changed, CALL ME ASAP and we will try to figure something out. 360-280-0888
Recommended: Obtain 3-5 certified copies of your marriage health certificate after it has been recorded with the county of issue. (A certified copy serves as your legal proof of marriage.)
Keep in mind that your marriage license is only valid for use in the state that issued it. If you have questions about applying for a marriage license or obtaining certified copies (legal proof of marriage) after your wedding, please contact the state county auditor's office directly.
There is no legal requirement for name change after getting married. It is a right a couple may choose to exercise. All marriage license documents are signed with one's current legal name, never the intended new name.
Washington State law does not impose a time limit after the wedding by which a name change must be accomplished. However, if you are making the change more than a year after your wedding, check with each agency to determine if a certified copy of your certificate of marriage will suffice to change your name with them. If an agency requires more than a certified copy of your certificate of marriage, check with your local district court for details on a court-ordered name change.
To assume your new last name after getting married, you should first obtain certified copies of your recorded certificate of marriage. Then work with each agency to change its record of your name. These may include:
